Our Unforgettable Stay at Barcelo, Coconut Island

When my wife Shelly and I planned our 35th wedding anniversary getaway to Phuket, we wanted something extraordinary, a place where we could unwind, immerse ourselves in luxury, and celebrate this milestone anniversary. And of course, it needed to be someplace with a stunning, tropical beach! After much research, we decided on Barcelo Coconut Island, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made.

Arrival and Location

Our adventure began as soon as we landed in Phuket. From the airport, a short taxi ride brought us to Laem Hin Pier, where a sleek speedboat was waiting to whisk us away to our tropical paradise. As the boat cut through the turquoise waters, we felt a growing sense of anticipation. Just a 10-minute ride later, we arrived at Coconut Island, and our first glimpse of the resort was breathtaking.

Nestled on a private island, Barcelo Coconut Island boasts a stunning backdrop of lush greenery and sparkling blue sea. The sense of exclusivity and tranquility is palpable the moment you set foot on the island.

Our Room: A Secluded Sanctuary

We were greeted warmly by the staff and escorted to our room, or rather, our private villa. We had chosen a one-bedroom ocean view villa, and it did not disappoint. The villa was a perfect blend of modern comfort and tropical elegance. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, and the private pool was just steps away from a pristine beach.

Inside, the villa was spacious and luxurious. The master bedroom featured a king-sized bed draped in crisp white linens. The en-suite bathroom was a highlight, with rain showers and a freestanding bathtub that overlooked the ocean—ideal for soaking away the stress of everyday life. The tub was our favorite place to spend a rare rainy afternoon. We would have been happy to never leave our room, but there was so much to see and do at this amazing resort. Keep reading to see what we loved about it!

Amenities and Activities

The Village offers a plethora of amenities that cater to every need. Shelly and I spent our mornings lounging by our private pool, but the resort’s main infinity pool was equally inviting, with its swim-up bar and stunning views. They even had two waterslides that we couldn’t resist!

You know we love a good massage, and the resort’s Kahtor Spa quickly became one of our favorite spots. We indulged in a couple’s massage that was nothing short of heavenly. The therapists were incredibly skilled, and the tranquil environment made for a deeply relaxing experience. We also tried a traditional Thai massage and a coconut oil treatment, both of which left us feeling rejuvenated and pampered.

Dining: A Culinary Journey

Food is a crucial part of any holiday for us, and Coconut Island did not disappoint. Our package included breakfast and dinner daily, although you could elect for all-inclusive. We started each day with a lavish breakfast at The Tamarind Restaurant. The buffet offered an extensive selection, from fresh tropical fruits and pastries to made-to-order eggs and traditional Thai dishes.

For lunch, we often opted for The Deli, which offered a variety of light bites and refreshing drinks. However, dinner was the highlight of our culinary journey. The Beach Bar served up the freshest seafood, and we enjoyed many romantic dinners with our toes in the sand, watching the sun set over the horizon.

Exploring the Island

Beyond the resort, there was so much to see and do. We took advantage of the complimentary kayaks and paddleboards to explore the coastline. The clear waters were perfect for snorkeling, and we marveled at the vibrant marine life just beneath the surface.

One day, we took a guided tour of the island’s mangroves, which was both educational and visually stunning. Our guide was knowledgeable about the local ecosystem and pointed out various species of birds and marine animals.

Nearby Activities

The resort also organized excursions to nearby attractions. We couldn’t resist a trip to the famous Phang Nga Bay, with its dramatic limestone karsts and emerald waters. Another day, we visited the bustling markets and vibrant nightlife of Patong Beach, which was a stark but enjoyable contrast to the serene Coconut Island.

Final Thoughts

Our stay at Barcelo Coconut Island was everything we hoped for and more. The blend of luxury, natural beauty, and warm hospitality made it an unforgettable experience. Shelly and I left feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated, with memories that we will cherish forever. We chose the perfect place to celebrate this milestone anniversary together!
